Our staff have had a busy morning today, taking part in a local school careers day. Managing Director Glen Campbell and Marketing Manager Charlotte Campbell visited Walton le Dale Arts College and High School, to talk to the year 8 children about the British caravan industry and its opportunities.
We thought we’d have tough competition to interest the children, especially as there were representatives from PNE football team there! But, as it turned out, many of the children (and a teacher or two!) had fond memories of past caravanning holidays with their families. They were attentive and keen to learn about the workings of a business and how to impress a potential employer.
One of the things we were keen to get across to children that were worried about their future after school is that even if you don’t get A* grades, what impresses businesses like ours is work ethic and attitude. Many of our members of staff have trained within the workplace (including our current workshop apprentice who is due to complete his course and join our team full time very soon). Someone that will go the extra mile for customers or is an excellent team player can be just as valuable to an organisation as someone who aces all their exams- so there are plenty of routes to success.
It was interesting to hear about the ambitions the children had, from Ice Road Trucker to being a member of the FBI, to wanting to work for us!
So, who knows, we could have inspired a new apprentice or member of staff! Watch this space…
