The nights are slowly getting lighter, and that can only mean one thing for many caravan and motorhome owners – touring season is coming!
If your caravan, campervan or motorhome has been parked safely for the duration of the winter, there are a few checks you might want to make before you embark on your first trip of the year.
Here’s a Post-Winter Checklist for Caravan & Motorhome Owners to ensure a smooth and safe first trip of the season!
1️⃣ Exterior Checks
✔️ Inspect tyres for cracks, bulges & correct pressure
✔️ Check for leaks or damp spots on the roof & seals
✔️ Clean & lubricate door hinges, locks & windows
✔️ Ensure exterior lights are working (indicators, brake lights, headlights)
✔️ Remove any covers & inspect for winter damage
2️⃣ Power & Battery
✔️ Reconnect leisure battery & check charge level
✔️ Test all electrical systems (lights, sockets, appliances)
✔️ Check solar panels (if fitted) for dirt or damage
✔️ Inspect fuses & replace if necessary
3️⃣ Water System
✔️ Reconnect & refill fresh water tank
✔️ Flush water system with sterilizer to remove bacteria
✔️ Check for leaks in pipes, taps, and water heater
✔️ Ensure the waste tank is empty and clean
4️⃣ Gas System
✔️ Reconnect gas supply & check for leaks (use soapy water on joints)
✔️ Test the hob, oven, and fridge on gas mode
✔️ Ensure carbon monoxide detector is working
5️⃣ Interior & Living Space
✔️ Ventilate for a few hours to remove musty smells
✔️ Check soft furnishings & bedding for damp or mould
✔️ Restock essential supplies (toilet chemicals, gas, kitchen items)
✔️ Test heating system (blown air or radiator)
6️⃣ Before You Drive Off
✔️ Check engine oil, coolant & windscreen wash levels (motorhomes)
✔️ Test brakes & clutch
✔️ Ensure mirrors are adjusted & clean
✔️ Secure loose items inside to prevent movement while driving
